Situation & Task
In the summer of 2025, Walmart was hosting its annual Seller Summit Conference in San Diego, CA. The event team came up with multi-panel LED wall entryway for the Walmart Connect booth. The installation was meant to attract conference-goers to the booth. I was tasked with the pixel mapping and motion graphics for the entire installation. At the time, this was the most complex live event installation that Walmart had ever tackled.
Action
I began the project by first creating a pixel map of the entire installation. I referenced the architectural designs that were given to me in order to create the map. It was important to consider the animations that I would eventually create when deciding on the layout of the pixel map. There were certain screen layouts that would be easier to animate on than others. I eventually landed on the design on the top left as it generally made the most sense for each look that would appear on the screens. I then made a basic 3D model of the installation so that I could quickly reference it to ensure that everything was translating the way I wanted it to. For the animations, I wanted each design to be completely seamless across the entire installation. This became quite complex for the spotlight look because I wanted the spotlights to look like a physical light source in the space.
Results
I was not on site for the event but the project handoff to the vendor went very smoothly and only required minimal adjustments once the installation was built. Unfortunately, due to some equipment issues on site, the “Ceiling 1” and “Ceiling 2” LED panels were not part of the final entryway. The entryway successfully brought in top sellers and retail industry leaders to the booth. The largest attended breakout session of the entire event was within the Walmart Connect space. My work on this project greatly exceeded the expectations of Walmart Connect as the company had very little experience creating things like this in the past.
Internal feedback:

“This is possibly the most complex work I've seen us do so far”
“We went beyond our usually video production and introduced new creative video deliveries with 3D mapping”
“Everybody was taking pictures of the arch”
“It will be hard to top this next year”
“Your arch was the star of the booth”
