QUINN XCII - AM I HIGH RN

Roles: Editing, Animation, Illustration

Situation & Task

After working for the music artist Quinn XCII for a few years, I was asked to creative direct all visual assets for his headline performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. At the time, this was the largest project that I had taken on and was also the largest headline show that Quinn XCII had ever performed. I was leading a team of 4 visual designers for this 10,000 person event. I created about half of the visuals for the show myself.

Action

I began by creating a slide deck of various style frames corresponding to each song of the set. Since I had worked with Quinn XCII many times before, I was familiar with the visual design style and how it differed from various albums throughout his discography. Once the slides were presented and eventually approved, I moved on to allocating the work to each visual artist based on their skillsets. For the project that you see on the left, I created a minimal intro that eventually transitions into a dramatic visual for the first song of the show, Am I High RN. The light blues and yellows evoke a euphoric emotion from the audience. Throughout the song, the visuals get more and more distorted in order to visually represent the title of the song.

Result

All of the visuals that I creative directed / designed were a major part of the sold out headlining show. Specifically, the Am I High RN visual (shown on the left) was a favorite among the artist, management, and various concert-goers that I met that night. Quinn XCII has continued to work with me to this day and I have become an important part of his visual branding.
