GOOGLE - CHICAGO LOOPS

Roles: Animation, Graphic Design*

Situation & Task

In the fall of 2023, Google was renovating their live events center in their Chicago office. I was brought on by their Tech Site Lead to create loops or “Google Doodles” for the new LED wall that was being installed. The goal was to create assets that were customized specifically to the Chicago office to evoke a sense of pride in the city and also that specific branch of the company.

Action

Google provided a few assets to draw inspiration from for this project. I received a large group of icons from their Chicago design system which I primarily used for “Loop 1” shown in the video on the left. I realized that I could use icons that roughly resembled each letter of the word “Google” and the viewer would still very easily understand the brand connection due to the colors and overall shape of the icons. The icons seamlessly transform back into the Google logo to portray the connection between the company and the city as a whole.

Result

The designs honor many of the famous landmarks and cultural artifacts in the city of Chicago, welcoming employees and guests to the workplace. These assets are still used today and are played throughout the space at all times.
