DOLLY PARTON - 9 TO 5
Roles: Animation, 3D Scene Design
Situation & Task
Dolly Parton was performing on NBC for the New York City Christmas Tree Lighting at The Rockefeller Center and I was tasked with creating her show visuals for her performance. I had less than a week to create this visual and one other for the show.
Action
Because of the themes and lyrics of the song 9 to 5, I created a scene of gears spinning. The gears are meant to represent that we are working as part of a machine together in society. Dolly’s creative director requested that the words “9 to 5” animate down into the scene and light up during the chorus of the song, heavily emphasizing the lyrics. One of the gears also has “9 to 5” etched into it which can be seen on the right side of the visual.
Result
Both Dolly and her creative director were very pleased with this project. The performance was aired across the United States for the holiday season and was viewed by millions on NBC. Because of how I lit the 3D scene, the visual appeared to be an installation on set which helped to elevate the performance and enhanced the set design.
