Situation & Task

While contracted through WastedPotential as a visual designer, I was tasked with creating show visuals for Ava Max’s performance of her song Kings & Queens. This performance would be streamed online and eventually posted on YouTube to help promote the release.

Action

The artist wanted the visuals to reflect her Heaven & Hell album photoshoots. In order to ensure consistency with those photos, I actually took pieces of some photos composited them together to created the landscape. I masked the lightning strikes in the background and then applied key frames to the exposure of the foreground to match the strikes. This helped to make the scene feel realistic and immersive for the performance.

Result

Tens of thousands joined the live steam for the album release and the video later accumulated over 17 million views on YouTube. The scene did indeed appear to be immersive and consistent with her album branding. Ava Max continued to work with the WastedPotential team for many years to come.
